Miko's Italian Ice Morphs into Miko's Flipside Cafe Oct. 1

While Miko's Italian Ice helps keep people cool during the sweltering summer months, the space will once again convert into a wintry cafe. Starting Oct. 1, Miko's Flipside Cafe will feature a seasonal pop-up by sometime-chef Will Von Hartz.

Von Hartz, a laid off IT guy who is also behind Rootstock's chocolate beer bark dessert, will launch with a grand opening party on Oct. 1 with a free tasting menu between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. After that, the shop will be open through April everyday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The cafe will serve a simple menu featuring fresh soups made daily like lentil, split pea and creamy tomato; gooey mac and cheese; and fresh sandwiches on housemade breads like the rosemary sandwich bread and focaccia with fresh herbs and romano. Miko's will also have various baked treats like chocolate cake with Valrhona chocolate and French buttercream; semi-sweet curry snaps; cheddar and smoked gouda cheese snaps; and herb and goat cheese puffs. Drinks will include hand-pour coffees, hot mulled cider, hot chocolate and custom-made sodas.
