Cantina Laredo, the modern Mexican cuisine restaurant with 30 locations across the United States, opens today in River North. Exclusive to the Chicago location will be a "Platillos" section, located on the second floor of the bi-level glass building serving small plates such as mini, crispy ahi tuna tacos; chicken empanadas and tropical ceviche, as well as a variety of tacos, flatbreads and desserts.
On the main level, the dining room will serve lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Expect to see their made-to-order tableside "Top Shelf" guacamole; hand rolled enchiladas; and a variety of entree salads and specialty dishes. Two of their desserts, the Mexican apple pie with brandy butter and the Mexican brownie are prepared tableside. For Sunday brunch you can dine on chicken fajita omelets; huevos rancheros; and crab cake benedict. The cocktails are aplenty as well with eight different margaritas, four types of mojitos, an extensive tequila list and Mexican beers bottled and on draft. They have a wine list as well.
If a private gathering is more your style, the restaurant has two private rooms, the "O" which features a circular table for eight and a mirrored wall that displays over 1,000 wine bottles, and the "Sky" room which seats 30 and has a square skylight.
Cantina Laredo is open Sunday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to Midnight.
