Artisan ice cream facing issues

New, 4 comments

black-dog-gelato-box-sm.jpgUnless something changes with current legislation, local artisan ice cream makers may face some big problems. On Friday, the Tribune reported that companies like Nice Cream and Black Dog Gelato may face shut downs if they don't get a "dairy license," which no one had seemed to know about until recently. Plus, in addition to other restrictions and rules, the state could require business owners to get an expensive pasteurizer or use a pre-made ice cream mix. Isn't that counter to having local, natural food? [Trib]
