Is Michael Carlson Closing Schwa and Moving to California?

Since he's been known to act somewhat impulsively and shutter the restaurant at a moment's notice (and even closed it for an extended period a couple of years ago), word is that Michael Carlson is thinking about shuttering Schwa.

Eater has gotten tips from two separate and reliable sources that Carlson may be making a move. He and his brother apparently were in LA last weekend, possibly scouting a location for a new restaurant. Whether he would immediately close his Michelin-starred Wicker Park restaurant remains to be seen. Eater called the restaurant, but the voicemail was full, as it usually is. And Schwa's PR team said they hadn't heard anything, but that rumors about his closing do pop up from time to time, but wouldn't count on it until they see a "for rent" sign in the window.

Schwa closing would definitely be a loss for Chicago's dining scene, as Carlson is one of the most talented chefs in the city. And if you thought getting a reservation has been difficult now, just wait.
