Chicagoan Jeff Mauro Wins Next Food Network Star

Chicago's Hearty Boys (Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh) were the first to win the Next Food Network Star and now local guy Jeff Mauro will follow in their footsteps. Mauro, the corporate chef for Chicago-based mortgage company Guaranteed Rate, won the title last night following challenges spanning 11 episodes.

Mauro, not to be confused with Jam chef Jeffrey Mauro, will premiere his new show, Sandwich King, on the Food Network on Aug. 21. With his background in acting and comedy tied with his culinary skills, Mauro impressed the judges to take the title. His new show will see Mauro preparing easy-to-make sandwiches, many inspired by some of his favorite food vendors in Chicago, including Isaacson & Stein Fish Market and Peoria Packing Butcher Shop.
