It seems like yesterday when Chicago started getting bombarded with a bunch of new barbecue offerings, so it's hard to believe that Lillie's Q is already celebrating its one-year anniversary today.
In honor of its birthday, chef/owner Charlie McKenna is throwing a bash tonight starting at 9 p.m. where he'll give out free tastings of prime cuts of a 30-pound smoked whole hog. Anyone who stops by the Bucktown barbecue joint will get to taste through a variety of cuts, including the ham, belly, pulled shoulder, tenderloin and more. Plus, all day today while the restaurant is open, enjoy $1 samplers of the new Lillie's Q-Rita (patron silver, grand marnier, Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon Carolina Moonshine, Lillie’s Q “smoky” Memphis-style BBQ sauce, housemade sour mix, and a rimmer of Lillie’s Q signature “Carolina Dirt” rub.
McKenna is also giving away a dinner for six-to-eight people to one winner of a video contest. The winner, to be announced on the restaurant's Facebook wall on Tuesday, will get a 30-pound whole hog with eight starters and sides, normally a $325 value.
