After many stops and starts, Burke's Public House finally opened its doors this week and the early reports seem to be positive. The tavern, opened by brothers Brendan and Kevin Costello, who used to run Jack Sullivan's in Lincoln Park, have been working hard to get their space open.
According to a post on LTH Forum, the Costellos had to get a permit to allow them to open a bar on a stretch of Broadway that had previously been dry, meaning no liquor was allowed to be served. But on Monday, Burke's turned on the taps and the beer started flowing. The casual spot that underwent a total gut rehab brings a much-welcome addition to the neighborhood, serving slightly more upscale pub fare. Burke's is open every day and stays open late on weekends.
