Doughnut Vault to Sell Soft Serve; Is Sodikoff Thinking Pizza for Next Project?

How do you keep people queueing up outside your already-super-hot doughnut shop? Start serving ice cream. Brendan Sodikoff let us know that the Doughnut Vault, his petite walk-up spot attached to Gilt Bar, will start selling various flavors of soft serve ice cream in the evening this summer.

The opening date is vague (which is not a huge surprise since things just happen to pop up at the DV), but Sodikoff said they'll always have a glazed doughnut soft serve flavor on tap and will rotate through others including coffee, vanilla, burnt caramel, maple/bourbon/bacon, milk chocolate and pistachio. The soft serve will come in coffee cups (we assume paper) and cost $3.

We also got a tip over the weekend that Sodikoff, in addition to opening Ox Diner this summer, may get into the pizza-making business. When we asked him about it, he said it was an idea, but then added, "I doubt we're going to do it. I really just want to focus on what we have open and running to make sure they remain consistent." But with Sodikoff, who quietly entered the Chicago restaurant scene with Gilt and has created quite the storm since opening Maude's Liquor Bar and Doughnut Vault, it wouldn't surprise us if a pizzeria was on the horizon.
