On Monday night, starting at 5 p.m. Blue 13 will open its doors to host a benefit for Shawn Koch, a restaurant-industry veteran who is suffering from brain cancer and does not have life insurance. The benefit will see chefs John Manion and Mark Steuer prepare appetizers from Blue 13, Carnivale, Leopold, Three Aces and Swim Cafe. Drinks have been donated by Goose Island, Cream Wine, Templeton Rye, St. Germain, Death's Door Spirits and Veev.
During the evening, guests can buy $20 raffle tickets for a chance at prizes donated by places including the Southern, Butcher & Larder, Girl & The Goat, Arlington Park, Empty Bottle, Naha, Meatyballs, Shedd Aquarium and so many more. The silent auction features a number of items, but standouts include art by Tony Fitzpatrick and a barrel of Templeton Rye. Scott Lucas of Local H will DJ.
One hundred percent of the money raised tonight, including the $20 entry, raffle tickets and all drink purchases and tips, will help offset Shawn's medical bills and relieve some of the pressure for his wife, Katie, and their two-year-old daughter, Charlie Mae. For more information, check out Shawn's website and the benefit's F*CK YOU to brain cancer Facebook page.
