Alderman May Stall Costco

030811_ashland%20costco.jpgA powerful alderman is standing in the way of a planned West Side Costco, the Sun-Times reports. Ald. Anthony Beale, chairman of the City Council's Transportation Committee, isn't pleased that $1M per year in rent will go to the nonprofit Illinois Medical District instead of the city, and he has stalled a pair of street closings that are vital to the development. "The city giving away land and someone [else] profiting is totally unacceptable at a time when we're having huge budget deficits," said Beale. [Sun-Times]
