A powerful alderman is standing in the way of a planned West Side Costco, the Sun-Times reports. Ald. Anthony Beale, chairman of the City Council's Transportation Committee, isn't pleased that $1M per year in rent will go to the nonprofit Illinois Medical District instead of the city, and he has stalled a pair of street closings that are vital to the development.
