South Branch, an 8,000 square foot bar opens today at 100 South Wacker along the Chicago River. A project of the team behind Boundary, Sweetwater and Trace, this tavern and grill will have a north and south bar, communal tables, booth seating and a private dining space. The interior is warm and inviting with dark woods, stone-enameled tables and stripped tree branches hanging from the ceiling.
A huge draw is the patio, which will open this spring. It is one of the largest in the city at 4,000 square feet and features a glass pavilion bar with retractable walls for those who like the feel of outside but want to stay out of the sun.
The menu features a variety of lunch and dinner options, including favorites from the Boundary and Sweetwater. Sandwiches, salads and burgers are plentiful and if you prefer there are more upscale choices like prime rib and fresh fish.
The beer list is impressive with over 60 bottled choices and 12 on tap. The bar boasts a see through wall with an extensive wine collection. Seasonal cocktails and a lengthy scotch and whiskey list are also available.
South Branch with be open Monday-Friday with seasonal hours on Saturday. Hours are limited this week, with regular hours resuming on March 14.
