Why do food establishments think they can get away with having unsavory and unsanitary conditions looming in their businesses? Don't they know Mayor Daley's Dumpster Task Force is lurking behind the corner, waiting to pounce? The Task Force nabbed its latest violator: Saint Anna's Bakery & Cafe.
The popular Chinatown spot specializes in European-American style pastries, like black forest cake and banana chocolate mousse cake, and Chinese specialities including sesame balls and egg custard tarts. Unfortunately it won't be serving anything until it cleans up its act.
The Task Force got a complaint about rodent activity and, upon inspection, found about 70 rat droppings throughout the kitchen. In addition, 400 pounds of food were tossed after the Task Force discovered the walk-in coolers had temperature control issues. Saint Anna's must correct the rodent issue, attend to the cooler problems and adjust overall housekeeping practices before it can request a new inspection.
