If you're wondering if Laurent Gras is ever coming back to Chicago, the chances are pretty unlikely. The former exec chef of L20 left Chicago just after receiving three Michelin stars for his Lettuce Entertain You restaurant in the Belden-Stratford and set his sights on New York.
While his actual restaurant concept is still under wraps, it turns out he's still keeping busy. On March 7, Gras will team with Andrew Carmellini to host a prix-fixe Mardi Gras-themed bash. The $85 dinner will see the duo serve up crawfish, gumbo, oysters Rockefeller, blackened trout and pecan duck with dirty rice. Good news is you'd get a relatively cheap meal from two acclaimed chefs. Bad news? All reservations and the wait list are booked. If you're in New York that night, maybe you can walk by and stare through the window. Call it Laurent Mardi Gras.
