Even before Mark and Liz Mendez opened their Spanish-inspired wine bar, Vera, in the West Loop in October, there was already a lot of buzz about the restaurant's cheese and wine program. Liz crafted a small-batch wine list based around Spain, Italy, France and beyond with a spotlight on the under-served sherry and also added lesser-expensive yet still-delicious wines on tap.
Now, to help educate diners on the different food and wine of Western Europe, the Mendezes are launching a series of classes, kicking things off on Jan. 28 with the "Cheese & Wine Excursion." The class, which will cost $40 and go from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will only be open to the first 25 people who reserve a spot by calling 312-243-9770. This will likely fill up fast as a couple of stellar reviews has kept the dining room buzzing of late.
