Chinese Food By the Numbers: Chens

Have you ever wondered how much work goes into having a successful Chinese restaurant? During Chinese Food Week, we are talking with some of the busier Chinese food restaurants to find out how much food they go through in a single week or month.

Chens on Clark is a Wrigleyville staple and a popular place for dine-in and carryout. Stephanie Izard is a big fan of their chicken chow fun. Chens is one busy place. How busy you ask?

In a single month Chens goes through:

· 1440 pounds of white rice
· 100 gallons of soy sauce
· 8,800 fortune cookies
· 653 egg rolls, plus an additional 562 on the house

The restaurant dishes up close to 2,500 servings of their most popular items:

· 664 General Tso's plates
· 658 Sesame plates
· 395 Schezwan plates
· 392 Kung Pao plate
· 364 Mongolian plates

And the restaurant fullfils 6,910 carryout and delivery orders per month.
