Beverly Kim Advances on Top Chef Texas; Becomes Sixth Chicago Contestant

Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the number of Chicago chefs competing on Top Chef Texas this season. Last week saw five Chicago hopefuls earn Top Chef coats, and this week one more advanced. Beverly Kim from Aria competed last night and based on last week's previews it looked like she may have landed on the bubble. Well, that wasn't the case.

Kim had 60 minutes to cook octopus (a first for her) and she created her version of the dish nakji bokum, Korean-style octopus. Although Tom Colicchio called it "risky, really crazy risky," to cook octopus, the judges liked the "soulful and comforting Korean food." Colicchio said he'd "like to see more of this craziness" and with judge Hugh Acheson confirming, Kim earned her Top Chef coat. Now six of the 16 competing chefs are from Chicago.

Back in the house saw the team choosing beds and everyone celebrating. But in typical Top Chef style, the previews for the season show high drama. There were quite a few shots of Sarah Grueneberg, including a scene with her in tears saying "this is the hardest thing I've ever done." Beverly Kim sheds some tears as well and we see shots of Heather Terhune, Chuy Valencia and Chris Jones, too. We can't wait to see what Chicago brings this season.
