PULLMAN—Early this week, the American Planning Association recognized Pullman as one of the nation's great neighborhoods. In decline or not, this 'hood has integrity of architecture and design, and landmark status to rely on as it cycles in and out of poverty in the decades to come.
RIVER NORTH—A 450-unit building is fixin' to rise at 360 W Hubbard, starting next month. We bring you an early rendering from the architects of Kingsbury Plaza, just around the corner. More of the same, but a little less faux-aristocratic than some.
OLD TOWN—A Larry Booth-designed 70s contemporary is up for sale in the staid streets of Old Town. Essentially a big brick box, the interiors are kept secret from the street through a timid and respectful design. Plentiful space and a damn fine kitchen. $1.95M.
EAST VILLAGE—This week, developers of the old Pizza Hut site at Ashland & Division answered critics with a slapdash rendering of a building that, happily, caves to many of the community's demands. Proper density and use is the issue here, and this is a big improvement over a two-story drive thru.
