It came as a shock when Theo Gilbert announced he was going to close his five-year-old Terragusto in Roscoe Village, but then he quickly turned around and revealed his plans to open a new concept in Bucktown. Gilbert is opening his new joint, Ripasso, tonight focusing on authentic Italian cuisine.
The intimate 50-seat spot will have booths, walnut tables and a few communal tables, where they will make fresh bread and pasta in house daily. As previously reported, the menu won't be so far off from what Gilbert offered at Terragusto, but where that spot was BYO, Ripasso will have a full bar with cocktails being mixed up by Tim Lacey and Lorna Biljan. The restaurant will feature a rotating list of all Italian wines, some from more obscure regions.
Watch for Gilbert to announce interactive wine dinners and pasta-making classes. Ripasso will be open Tuesday through Sunday nightly and, starting Nov. 8, will offer lunch for take away or nearby bicycle delivery.
