Since news first broke that Ian Schrager would revive the Pump Room and team with chef Jean-George Vongerichten, Chicagoans have been waiting for the day they can enjoy the food and drinks in the revamped space.

While the restaurant, as well as the Public Hotel inside which the Pump Room is housed, has been holding "previews" for the last month, the property officially opened this morning.

Around 10 a.m., Schrager, JGV, aldermen and other local dignitaries and socialites turned out for the official ribbon cutting ceremony. Words were said, congratulations were offered and after the ribbon was cut, everyone went inside to enjoy a complimentary breakfast of brioche French toast with crispy bacon and golden roasted apples. The property is hosting a VIP opening bash tonight.

And now that the Pump Room is officially open, it's time to start watching for all of the other big restaurant openings that will take place this fall.
