Zapatista, the large and lively South Loop Mexican restaurant, just opened a new location in the heart of Lincoln Park, expanding its restaurant offerings now to three (they also have a location in Northbrook).
Now North Siders can get the same mix of handmade tacos and tamales along with fresh margaritas and entrees including tilapia yucateca, tuna mac 'n' cheese, enchiladas de mariscos, mahi mahi tacos and cochinita pibil, a slow-roasted pork marinated in achiote. And, according to the website, every day between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. and then again from 10 p.m. to close, the Siesta menu kicks in, offering things like empanadas, flautas, tacos de la casa and guacamole for $3.
The restaurant, named for Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata, took over the space formerly occupied by Emilio's Tapas. While one's Spanish and one is Mexican, is there something about the name that the landlord likes? Doubtful, but we had to put it out there.
