About 2 weeks ago, our sister blog, Racked Chicago brought us some top secret intelligence video of the interior of the vacant Anthropologie space located at the top of the Viagra Triangle. What happened on that cold December day left us unsure of the future purpose of the space and the specifics of that deal that went down. Last Friday, branded paper was hung in the windows and now we have answers.
Classic Chicago pizza joint Lou Malnati's will inhabit the space and begin outfitting it to restaurant specs immediately to ready itself for a July 1 opening in time for summer tourist traffic. "This location is great for us because it's a mix of neighborhood locals and foot-traffic tourists," said Mindy Kaplan, a Lou Malnati's spokesperson.
The recent Food Wars winner obviously saw a void in the neighborhood and a natural opportunity for expansion based on the size restrictions and popularity of their only other downtown locations in River North and South Loop. Kaplan said they are "very fortunate to be very busy and hope that this location will be more convenient for tourists." Well, if Malnati's is gearing more toward tourists, we wonder if Oprah fave Homemade Pizza Co directly across the street is feeling the heat. Maybe that one can be reserved for the locals.
