Pastrami on Rye at 2nd Ave. Deli [Photo: Vocalo]
ABC7's food reporter, the Hungry Hound Steve Dolinsky, is eating his way through New York this week and reporting about it on his Vocalo blog. The other day he cheated on Chicago pizza with some tasty Neapolitan pie at Motorino in the East Village. But today he disses Chicago's Jewish deli scene (Manny's, Eleven City Diner ... what? what?) by saying that there's nothing like good ol' New York pastrami. He mentions Carnegie (thinks it's overrated) and Katz's, but says for the best in the Big Apple, you gotta go to the 2nd Ave. Deli.
He noshed on a big, fat pastrami sandwich on rye, some matzo ball soup, kosher pickles and some dense kishke. And then went back for a tongue and corned beef on rye. Oy, indeed.
