It's amazing that Scott Harris isn't exhausted. In fact, we're beginning to question whether the benevolent ruler of the Mia Francesca empire ever sleeps. In October, just after he opened Davanti Enoteca, we got intel on two new spots he planned to open on Taylor Street, the Ballroom and Gennaro's, which sees Harris re-opening the old school Italian spot in a location not far from the original.
Now comes news he's opening up yet even more. This month, Harris, along with partner Jimmy Bannos, Sr., will continue his quest to bring the neighborhood back to its old-school roots with Doughboys, a pizza joint cooking up both thin-crust and deep-dish set to open Dec. 8 at 624 S. Racine, next door to the revamped Gennaro's.
But that's not all: On Dec. 14, Harris will unveil DiSotto Enoteca, a subterranean wine cavern beneath his Francesca's on Chestnut in Streeterville that will feature 12 to 15 different bruschettas, plus cheese and charcuterie.
And lest Harris be called an Italophile, on Dec. 8, he'll also debut a restaurant devoted to tequila and tacos, the aptly named Fat Rosie's Taco & Tequila Bar out in St. Charles. Housed in the old T-Bones Steakhouse location, Fat Rosie's will offer cheap south-of-the-border staples churned out by chef and Harris pal Raul Arreola, an alum of Mixteco Grill and Playtio.
After all this, where does the Ballroom fit in? I guess we'll have to wait until February when it's scheduled to open in—where else?—the original Gennaro's space.
