Big Star Launching "At-Home Taco" Program Dec. 6

Until the patio enclosure is finished, which could happen in about two weeks, Big Star wants to help you fight the crowds in the always-packed bar: They're launching a "Big Star at Home" program where you can build-your-own Big Star tacos anywhere you want.

"We always get people who want huge orders and want to call ahead," said chef de cuisine Justin Large. "I had shied away from doing that because we don't have the space to put out huge orders like 60 tacos—it takes a long time and takes a lot of space. And it doesn't do a lot of service to the product."

So stating Monday Dec. 6, people can get all the ingredients for tacos, tostadas, chips and guacamole and salads and put them together themselves. Big Star requires a minimum order of 50 items (any combination of tacos and tostadas) and will prepare and package everything separately for you to serve at holiday parties, football games or wherever you desire. Essentially everything on the Big Star menu is fair game except the Sonoran hot dog, queso fundido and the newly added pozole rojo.

To ensure timely pickup of your food, the restaurant requires at least an hour lead time, but you can place your order days or weeks ahead. Since Large feels tacos are meant to be eaten relatively immediately after being cooked, he recommends getting the food no more than an hour before you're ready to serve them.

The to-go program will be available seven days a week from when the restaurant opens at 11:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. (meaning your order must be called in by 7); the phone number will soon be listed on Big Star's website and social media pages. The restaurant reserves the right to reject an order based on ingredient availability; they can also give longer pick-up times based on traffic at the restaurant, which can often be insane.

"You're creating Big Star in your house," Large said. "It's for all those people who just don't want to deal with us but want our food."
