The results are in and the people have spoken: Giuseppe Tentori must source karasumi in the next three days. The Boka executive chef announced a contest last week to entice his Twitter followers to challenge him to locate a hard-to-find ingredient.
On Friday, the Stump the Chef contest heated up as the top three finalists were selected and Tentori then asked his followers to vote for the ingredient they felt would be either the most difficult to find or the most interesting. And now, the ingredient has been revealed: karasumi.
Tentori now has three days to find karasumi, a product made by salting mullet roe that's then dried in the sunlight, which Chicago is seemingly devoid of at the moment. If he's unable to find it, he'll have to prepare a six-course tasting menu at Boka for Twitter user @mountsac, aka Rich Wang, who at last check only has six followers on Twitter. We suggest you start following him now to hopefully get a recap of that tasting menu he and a guest may indulge in soon.
Apparently the voting, which ended early today at 3 a.m., was close and heated. The other two ingredient finalists, breast milk and black chicken, were tied for second place. Let's see if Tentori has the skills to track down this tough ingredient. If not, we'll hopefully get a sneak peek of the tasting menu to let you all know what Wang will get to enjoy.
