Barbara Fairchild, Amanda Hesser Book Signings This Week

Fancy yourself a food geek? Read all the blogs, get Bon Appetit, Food & Wine and other cooking monthlies delivered to your mailbox? Do you read food sections from all the big city newspapers each week? Then you'd better get ready to get in line.

Outgoing Bon Appetit editor in chief Barbara Fairchild and New York Times food writer Amanda Hesser will both be in Chicago over the next week to sign their new cookbooks.

First up, Fairchild will make three appearances this weekend to sign copies of Bon Appetit Desserts. If you hurry, you can first catch her today at noon at CostCo in Lincoln Park. If you can't duck out of work, head over to Old Town's Spice House this evening from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Fairchild makes a 1 p.m. stop at the lower level demo kitchen at Macy's on State Street. The book includes 600-plus recipes culled together by the Bon App editorial team and the signings will include cooking demos and some sweet treats.

On Nov. 9. NYT's Hesser will sign copies of the updated The Essential New York Times Cookbook at Kendall College. The 7 p.m. signing will include food prepared by the Gage and Henri executive chef Dirk Flanigan. Hesser revisited the 50-year-old book and reached out to Times readers to determine their favorite recipes from throughout the decades. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased through ChicaGourmets.
