Sun Wah Gets Health Violations, Set to Reopen Upon Inspection

New, 2 comments

The same day we included Uptown's Sun Wah Bar-B-Que on the Chicago Eater 38 list of essential restaurants we learn that the city shuttered the restaurant on Friday due to some health code violations. Since we just ate there a couple of weeks ago (and recommended their Thanksgiving turkey prep), we were pleased to learn that Sun Wah didn't have vermin or bugs.

The city's health department slapped Sun Wah with a $4,000 fine based on various violations including improperly storing food and not having hand-washing facilities in the food prep areas. "We slipped up," Laura Cheng, one of the partners in the family-owned restaurant, told the Tribune. "We're not denying it. But everything's been taken care of." The owners hope to re-open by Wednesday at the latest, just in time to prepare all those turkeys for the big day.
