With nearly 1,000 people in attendance, the 2010 Meals on Wheels Celebrity Chef Ball raised more than $200,000 to help the organization that delivers cooked meals to the elderly and people with disabilities. There was a lot of star power in the room that night, which began with a VIP sit-down dinner, where approximately 27 chefs and 9 mixologists prepared dinner for anywhere from 30-40 people set up in nine pods.
Chefs like Nancy Silverton (LA's Osteria Mozza), Jimmy Bannos Sr and Jr (Heaven on Seven and Purple Pig, respectively), Rick Gresh (David Burke's Primehouse), Dirk Flanigan (The Gage, Henri), John Des Rosiers (Inovasi), Koren Grieveson (avec), Andrew Zimmerman (Sepia), Tony Priolo (Piccolo Sogno) and so many more created six-course menus, including cocktails, for each of the pods while a live auction ensued.
The night continued with hundreds more people meandering about the Dine Around portion of the night, where nearly 50 more chefs set up tasting stations and doled out everything from mini tacos and burgers to oysters to bite-sized cupcakes. Bars were set up throughout and a silent auction offered amazing dining, travel and lifestyle treats.
All in all, it was a hugely successful night. With more than $200,000 raised, Meals on Wheels can continue the great work it performs throughout the year helping those who are unable to help themselves.
