Eater Wire: Koryo Shuttered becoming Hiro's Cafe, Starfruit, Takashi, Sixteen, Mercat a la Planxa

LAKEVIEW—Rumors were flying that Koryo on B'way had shut down after people noticed it was closed on and off and then their voicemail was full when we called. A tipster let us know today that it is in fact shuttered and that Hiro's Cafe is on its way. We snapped some pix and left a message for the owners but haven't heard back yet. It says it's Japanese cuisine but is that sushi? hibachi? what else? We assume sushi. A couple of guys were working inside but the door was locked and they ignored our knocks on the window. We want to know -- is it inspired by Hiro Nakamura? Are we that geeky? [EaterWire]

UKRAINIAN VILLAGE—Ok, so what if it's a somewhat slow news day. Who doesn't like free fall toppings? Starfruit is having a customer appreciation day this Wednesday. Head down to their Division Street location between 6-8pm and get pumpkin cupcakes, apple cobbler and free fall sprinkles (we're not sure what we most excited for. Insert sarcasm here). [EaterWire]

CHICAGO—Ten days ago when Esquire named L20 the restaurant of the year, we were so excited that we overlooked the other Chicago entries in Esquire's Best New Restaurant issue. Had we paid closer attention, we would've seen not only Takashi (with which we wholeheartedly agree with Esquire), but also Mercat a la Planxa (which we're somewhat embarrassed to say we've never been -- and we love Spanish food). But the coolest thing about the list? Table 42 at Sixteen in the new Trump building was named "table of the year." Why so cool? We're pretty sure that's where we sat when we gorged there. And yes, we mean gorged. [EaterWire]
