The Whistler has been open in a very incognito locale in Logan Square (we walked by it) for just a couple of weeks but they're already bringing in the crowds. We stopped by yesterday just after opening and there were already four people drinking at the bar. And we're not talking old drunks but young attractive hipsters. We chatted with owner Billy Helmkamp for a bit, who told us they have something booked nearly every night through the end of November -- bands, art installments, DJs, parties, etc -- and that they're nutty busy on the weekends. And they're going to be launching a graphic designers series where designers can showcase their work, just like other artists do. Mixologist Paul McGhee was pouring one of his treats and the rest of the drink list, featuring fresh fruit and juices, looked pretty tasty.
