The lines were as absurd as predicted over the weekend in Skokie when Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee celebrated the opening of their first restaurant in the Midwest. Last week, the first customer lined up at 9 p.m. and waited 10 hours before Jollibee opened at 7 a.m. on Friday.
Here’s a few more tidbits from Jollibee corporate about the opening:
- They served 5,000 customers on opening day.
- Five hundred customers lined up before the doors opened.
- The first car parked at the drive-thru at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, waiting 90 minutes for service.
- At 18 months, Baby Makiko was the youngest customer in line.
- At 77 years, a customer named Elizabeth was the oldest.
Those long waits meant that customers could actually fly to Los Angeles and eat at the Jollibee in Southern California in shorter times. Chicago’s on deck for their own Jollibee madness, as the chain should open at location at 5033 N. Elston Ave. later this year.
