The Barn, the long-awaited Evanston restaurant from Amy Morton, has a Nov. 1 opening date. This is Morton’s follow-up to her first Evanston restaurant, Found, and they’ve taken over a former barn inside a 19th Century brick building. She initially announced the restaurant back in 2015 and planned a winter 2015 opening.
Here’s some intel on the menu from Found and Barn executive chef Nicole Pederson. The restaurant’s tagline is "a modern meaterie," and the opening dishes include six entrees, plus a trio of steaks—all bone-in Prime Heritage Angus—carved table side. There’s also a nightly special (printed on the menu) every day of the week. Unlike downtown steakhouses (say like the famous chain that Morton’s father, Arnie Morton, founded), these chops don’t come a la carte, but instead with butterball potatoes.
While there’s no giant slab of meat for two, the prices seem reasonable for a nice steak, especially for the suburbs. The 16-ounce ribeye comes in at $45.95. There’s a usual lineup of steakhouse sides, but curiously the macaroni and cheese is "just for the girls." How mysterious!
Check out the dinner and dessert menus below. The Barn should open on Nov. 1 at Rear 1016 Church St. in Evanston.
